Multicultural Programs and Services Mission:
The mission of Multicultural Programs and Services is to promote the academic, personal, and social success of all students, particularly those from underrepresented and historically marginalized populations. MPS values diversity and strives to transform the Virginia Tech community through cross-cultural exchange. We will increase multicultural competencies as a means of achieving educational excellence.
Rooms Available:
- Black Cultural Center (BCC) – Seats 50 comfortably. The BCC contains 50 stackable chairs, one six foot table, 1 - four foot table, a couch, loveseat, armchair, projector screen, television, vcr, dvd player, stereo, three computers and many books, videos and reference materials. The BCC cannot be closed off from student traffic.
- Multicultural Center (MCC) – Seats 40 in a theater style arrangement and 20 in a classroom style arrangement. Classroom style includes 4 folding tables. The MCC contains 16 stackable chairs, 2 - four foot round tables, five arm chairs, television, stereo, vcr, dvd player, computers, and many books, videos and reference materials. The MCC cannot be closed off from student traffic.
- MPS Conference Room – Seats 14 comfortably with a large conference table. The conference room also contains a projector screen.
This room is closed off for privacy and requires a key. Please pick up the key during regular business hours.
- MPS Kitchen – Refrigerator, oven, microwave oven and coffee maker are available for use. There are no tables or chairs in the kitchen, so this area will most likely be used with either the BCC, the MCC or the conference room reservation. Please pick up the key during regular business hours.
Reservation Procedure:
- Priority will be given to student organizations advised by Multicultural Programs and Services. Other reservation requests must be consistent with the mission of Multicultural Programs and Services.
- Rooms are reserved on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are to be filled out and submitted electronically (page down).
- Rooms cannot be reserved for more than a semester in advance.
- Each reservation must include a contact person, telephone number, address and purpose of meeting/reservation.
- Confirmation of reservations will be sent via email once your request has been approved.
- No group, club or organization may transfer their reservation to another group, club or organization.
- If you request the use of the kitchen with your reservation, you are responsible for supplying your own refreshments for your meeting/reservation.
Use Guidelines:
- If you have large boxes that are trash (pizza boxes) please write TRASH on the box and place near/on a trash receptacle.
- If access to the kitchen or conference room is needed after normal business hours, the person responsible for the reservation must come to the Multicultural Programs and Services office before 5 PM the day of the meeting or event to pick up a key, which must be returned no later than 9 AM the following day.
- Any equipment failure or questions should be directed to Gwen Harrington via email at gwharrin@vt.edu or by phone at 540-231-8584.
- Return the space to its original condition it was in before your meeting or event.
- Chairs and tables returned to original configuration.
- Tables are clean.
- All supplies and resources returned to their original place.
- Trash is placed in proper receptacles.
- Doors to the kitchen and conference room are locked properly before you leave.
- No alcoholic beverages of any kind are permitted
** Failure to follow any of the guidelines could result in the loss of future use of the MPS facilities. **
